"The Essence" Is a short novel I wrote between January and March 2019. It's eleven chapters long and only about 90 pages. I'm going to be publishing a new chapter, every Saturday, starting August 10th. I promise you will be entertained, as it's the best thing I've ever written, and the prose I use is pretty good. I wrote it during a pretty dark time in my life, so it's pretty dark, but it's also pretty romantic.
The story is about a doctor who has maybe discovered a cure for cancer called the Essence, but he is found dead of apparent suicide and the cure is lost. The main character (Tim Gray) is an ex-sheriff turned private investigator, who is investigating the death. A lot of things aren't adding up, and it looks like it was really a murder. Things get stranger the deeper he gets into the possible conspiracy, putting his own life in danger. A group of dark entities do not want there to be a cure, they are like vampires, but instead of blood they feed on bad emotions, like fear, anger, sadness, death, and disease. They are out to stop Tim Gray from discovering the truth.
The story takes place in the mid 1990's, so I've added a lot of 90's nostalgia, with slang and events. There is also a lot of hidden messages in the book about the 1990's, but those are for the reader to find.
I had a lot of fun writing this book. It kept me busy and out of trouble. I hope you, the reader enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. See you Saturday.
